Barbara Diane Moring

October 17, 1938 — September 24, 2018

In lieu of flowers, Barbara requested that people consider donating to Helotes Humane Society at hhsanimals.org or to: PO Box 908, Helotes TX 78023.

Barbara Moring passed on peacefully in her sleep on Monday September 24th, after a long illness. Barbara had a pure and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior, and she was comforted by her destination with Him.

Barbara is survived by her husband Wades E Moring, son Michael J Valentic, daughter Wendy A Valentic and daughter Mary Seminario. We plan to celebrate her sweet and gentle life with a memorial service at Oak Hills Church 19595 IH 10 West, San Antonio, TX 78257, on Tuesday evening, October 9th, at 7pm.

From an early age, Barbara loved books, animals and nature. These were her constant companions and best friends while she was growing up. She loved hiking in the woods, observing and appreciating the beauty in a spider’s web, a wasp’s nest, a mossy rock. She has kept pets as diverse as pygmy hedgehogs and iguanas.

As a school teacher at Oak Hills Terrace Elementary and Helotes Elementary schools, she made use of books and animals to pique the students’ interest in biology, develop their respect for nature, inspire their imaginations, empower them to express their creativity and spur their growth in academics. She always had a fair, gentle and creative approach to teaching, but Barbara would never accept praise for her achievements. She didn’t believe her skills were outstanding, although they were and they impacted the lives of many. Mom was never proud nor boastful.

Barbara created games and songs to entertain her students at school and our family at home. There was a song for every occasion- especially St. Patrick’s Day songs that used our own dogs’ names in the lyrics.

Barbara enjoyed selling books on Amazon. She loved distributing books all corners of the world. She also shared books with the community by founding (and convincing Wade to build) no less than four “Free Little Libraries” in Grey Forest.

Barbara loved to dance, and she enjoyed performing at the Texas Folklife Festival and other places with the Cadence Cloggers. She met her husband, Wade, through their mutual love of dancing.

Barbara learned to paint and decorate wood, gourds and rocks. She enjoyed painting so much that she and Wade expanded the house to accommodate these activities, and Wade joined in with wood-working. Together, they participated in many of the Grey Forest Open Studio events.

Barbara helped to found the Helotes Humane Society, to benefit homeless, unwanted and abused animals. She and Wade fostered many dogs- giving them the comfort of love.

Barbara became the top Spurs fan over the years. Her enthusiasm and support for the Spurs was contagious.
