Albert Edwin Wilson

Albert Edwin Wilson, 89, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas, in the company of his family.

Ed was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to William and Winifred Wilson on December 10, 1928. He met his loving wife, Eileen, while attending Balboa High School in the Panama Canal Zone and after several years of courtship, they married on September 13, 1952. Ed and Eileen were married almost 65 years.

Ed enjoyed a long and fulfilling life both in the Canal Zone and San Antonio, Texas. He spent 34 years working for the Panama Canal Authority in the US Postal Service rising through the ranks from sorting mail to his final assignment as the manager responsible for the post office at Rodman Naval Station. Ed was a prominent figure in the Canal Zone's U.S. Power Squadron retiring in 1970 as Commodore. He was also well known in the Square-Dancing circle as a dancer and caller.

Ed retired to San Antonio in 1980 and continued indulging his passion for Square Dancing. During their retirement, Ed and Eileen traveled throughout the USA in their truck and fifth-wheel, square dancing at conventions and any other place Ed could find. Ed volunteered for several years with The Arc of San Antonio whose mission is to enhance the lives of people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. He was honored by them with two awards for meritorious service and received the Spirit of San Antonio award as well.

Ed is preceded in death by his wife, Eileen, his parents William and Winifred and his brothers Donald and John. Ed is survived by his sons William (Rosario) Wilson and Michael (Geneva) Wilson and daughter Virginia (Charles) Kackley; and four grandchildren Alexander Wilson, Joshua Wilson, Reed Kackley and Mary Kackley.

A viewing and Rosary will be held at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels at 14315 Judson Road, San Antonio on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Neumann Church on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 11:30 am with Reverend Alex Pereida officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum at 17501 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association either online at www.alz.org or by mail at Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
